How To Change Your Tires Properly

There are many different reasons why you need to replace your tires. You need to fix them when they are underinflated or as part of your regular auto maintenance. You will benefit a lot if you know how to change a flat tire without the help of a mechanic. Changing tires only takes a few minutes when you have the necessary supplies and materials for it. Some of the tools you need include a spare tire, car jack, and lugnut wrench. Although you can perform this on the road, it is better to practice tire changing on your garage. Here are some general tips that can help you change your tires properly:

First, prepare the the tools and materials from the car and place them within reach. Remove the hubcap, if necessary. It is a plate like cover on your tire. Better check your manual to know how to remove the hubcap on your vehicle.

Using the lugnut wrench, loosen the lug nuts. Remember, just loosen it, don't remove it. Afterwards, jack up your car. But before that, you need to locate the jacking point under your car. Again, consult your owners' manual and find where the jack needs to be positioned. Make sure that the jack is in the right position before cranking the jack to lift the tire off the ground.

Remove the nuts completely and then the tire. Get the spare tire, align and position it to the wheel bolts. Tighten the nuts as much as you can then lower the car slowly. It is advised that you tighten the nuts in a cross pattern to ensure that the lug nuts are tightened evenly.

Once everything is done, you can pack all things up back in your car including the old tire. You are now ready to drive off safely!
